You may have heard of Tom Muller, active on design portals for many years (currently CPLuv, prior to that NTMY, pixelsurgeon, threeoh, ventilate), but did you know he had a brother Tim Muller, who specialises in high-grade 3D design? How many other designer families are out there? Matt Pyke works with his brother Simon (Freeform) on many projects … there must be more.

Hand Circus aka Simon Oliver, an independent game developer, UI enthusiast and all-round projamming expert, has been slaving over a hot SDK to bring some quality content to Apple’s iphone/itouch mobile device. Rolando is a ‘physics/puzzler’ (phyzzler) in the mold of Katamari Damacy and Locoroco, except here the iphone’s unique interface is put to full use. Anyone who has worked on a Flash game will know the insane amount of time and planning that has to go into this sort of creative endeavor; all Simon asks for to help the project’s development is a little exposure in the form of a few Diggs, can you do any less?

A cursory inspection of the site HTML reveals it has been built using Wordpress and a shopping-cart plugin. WP cart plugins are presently thin on the ground; it seems It’s Our Thing have used a heavily customised version of eShop or something different entirely. WP e-commerce plugin is appalling and can destroy a WP install. The other two available don’t exactly blow the doors off. Please somebody write a decent one.

For a new generation, blogging is replacing print as the dominant communication vector. It’s main advantage over print is the speed at which information can be disseminated. This speed is a double-edged sword however; it can lead to a lack of quality in presentation and content. As the medium matures, traditional design/editorial skills will likely separate professionals from amateurs, take for example the photography on boico.net/490. There is no WordPress template for this (note how photo backdrop matches blog html). It’s a very simple concept, just transplanting print level quality in presentation to the web.
